Overview
The Mountain Operations Director is responsible for the strategic planning, oversight, and execution of all mountain operations at Hatley Pointe. This role ensures the seamless functioning of ski lift systems, snowmaking, trail grooming, terrain park management, summer activities, and other mountain facilities, emphasizing guest safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability.
Duties
- Develop and implement strategic plans for mountain operations, aligning with the resort’s year-round business objectives and guest experience goals.
- Innovate and expand the resort's offerings to attract guests in all four seasons.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of all mountain-related activities, including ski lifts, snowmaking, grooming, maintenance, and summer recreational activities.
- Oversee the design and maintenance of ski trails, terrain parks, and hiking/biking trails.
- Ensure optimal operation of snowmaking equipment and grooming machinery to maintain high-quality conditions during the winter season.
- Ensure the highest safety standards for all mountain activities.
- Collaborate with other departments to create memorable guest experiences, integrating mountain operations with resort-wide initiatives.
- Address guest feedback promptly to enhance the overall experience.
- Lead and manage a team of department heads and seasonal staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence.
- Recruit, train, and develop employees for mountain operations, ensuring skill alignment and operational efficiency.
- Schedule and supervise staff to meet operational demands, especially during peak seasons.
- Develop and manage the mountain operations budget, focusing on cost control, revenue optimization, and capital improvements.
- Forecast and allocate resources for maintenance, upgrades, and infrastructure projects.
- Monitor operational metrics and adjust strategies to meet financial goals.
- Oversee the maintenance, repair, and replacement of ski lifts, snowmaking systems, and other mountain equipment to ensure safety and reliability.
- Plan and implement infrastructure upgrades to meet the resort’s evolving needs.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing mountain operations, including lift inspections, worker safety, and environmental standards.
- Develop and implement safety protocols, including emergency response plans for mountain activities.
- Champion sustainability initiatives, including energy-efficient snowmaking, waste reduction, and land conservation.
- Collaborate with environmental agencies to minimize the resort’s ecological footprint.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in operations management, with a strong understanding of business processes and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams effectively, fostering collaboration and high performance.
- Strong negotiation skills with experience in managing vendor relationships.
- Expertise in strategic planning, with a focus on aligning operations with overall business goals.

- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in mountain operations or a similar role, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
