The Preschool Teacher Assistant will support the Lead Teacher in implementing the curriculum in a safe, healthy, and nurturing classroom environment that supports each child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth and development.
- Help facilitate classroom activities.
- Assist in creating engaging, age-appropriate lessons using provided curriculum.
- Establish classroom management utilizing positive coaching.
- Encourage and assist in positive social interactions.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
Responsible for following the classroom Lead Teacher's directions to implement the educational program per Hawaii Montessori's educational goals, objectives, and beliefs. Report directly to the Lead Teacher and consequently to the Directors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Preschool Teacher Assistant is responsible for:
- Willingness to learn about the Montessori philosophy
- Reporting to work on time, signing in and out, and informing the Director of absences in advance.
- Carrying out the directions of the Lead Teacher.
- Maintaining the classroom cleanliness keeping the shelves, floors, and tables reasonably free of dust, dirt, paper, and food particles, under the direction of the Lead Teacher.
- Helping the Lead Teacher to keep an orderly environment.
- Informing the Lead Teacher of needed repairs to materials and equipment.
- Cleaning and sanitizing tables, chairs, and materials daily using proper cleaning solutions and equipment.
- Prepare materials as directed by the Lead Teacher.
- Positive and nurturing interactions with children
- Maintain continuing education requirements
- Calm, positive attitude
- Communicate and work well amongst diverse groups of children, families, and colleagues
- Physically able to work with children, including lifting them, as needed based on their age and needs
- Must be reliable, responsible, passionate, flexible, and have a positive attitude.
Qualifications:
- Current TB clearance.
- Must be 18 years of age
- Be able to pass a fingerprinting background check with DHS.
- Certified note/letter from Physician stating the applicant is physically and mentally able to work with children.
- Specific requirements set by minimum state standards and accreditation.
- Have direct experience or training in the care of young children between the ages of 3-6.
- Demonstrate that they enjoy caring for young children.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification (preferred)
