Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a statistical medical coder specific to a Data Modeling project. The Medical Coder is responsible for review and validation of assignment of accurate ICD-10 diagnoses codes derived from medical record documentation (paper or electronic).

Tasks

• Follow and comply with industry standard medical coding guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Evaluate spreadsheets, lines of text, and other documentation to verify and / or assign accurate ICD-10 code assignments.
• Follow up and clarify any inconsistent information that is not clear.
• Responsible for maintaining an accuracy rate of 96% or greater.
• Interacts with peers to ensure documentation is clear and supports coding assignments.
• Participate in Quality Assurance programs and weekly staff meetings.
• Serve as a 'buddy' to assist with training and educating new team members and play a significant role in coding compliance activities.
• Must maintain confidentiality of PII at all times.
