Heartland Pharmacy Services is a closed-door Long Term Care (LTC) pharmacy located in Cedar Rapids, IA. We specialize in packaging and distributing medications to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. We are professional, fast-paced and rewarding. We offer a relaxed environment with a lot of growth opportunities!

Normal operating hours Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm, Saturday 9:00am-1:00pm.

We are looking for an experienced Pharmacist to join our team!

Must be available to work at least one Saturday morning every 3 weeks, and be on call for 1 week out of every 3 weeks rotating.

Job Summary:

The position falls under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager but is expected to perform independently and exercise good judgment. This position is responsible for managing the pharmacy in the absence of the Pharmacist In Charge by overseeing the prescription filling process, providing excellent customer service, and supervising pharmacy staff. Frequent independent judgements are necessary. Not only does this individual require a keen understanding of state-specific rules and regulations, but also a deep commitment to Heartland Pharmacy’s mission and vision.

Essential Functions:

The following essential functions are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Read, interpret, and enter prescriptions into the online pharmacy prescription system.
  • Ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of all prescriptions filled.
  • Supervise Pharmacy Technician(s) and support staff while on duty.
  • Prepare non-sterile compounds.
  • Assist Pharmacist-In-Charge to train, coach, and manage pharmacy staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with medical related issues and providing healthcare counsel.
  • Interact with patients, nurses, and physicians to gain knowledge and/or resolve issues.
  • Establish and maintain patient profiles and their prescription information to ensure up-to-date records.
  • Maintain appropriate security of the pharmacy.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations
  • Work in technician role and assist with office and technical duties as needed.
  • Comply with all security measures and quality standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • In depth knowledge of pharmacy practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel, Word
  • Basic understanding of FrameworksLTC and FrameworksECM software is beneficial
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD
  • Licensed and Registered Pharmacist in the state of Iowa in good standing
  • Must be able to relate professionally and positively to staff and to work cooperatively with associates of all levels and to represent the company in a positive manner.
  • Willing to get licensed in additional States pharmacy services (currently Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois)
  • Must have immunization certification and current active BLS CPR certification

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of directors, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Cognitive Demands:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Licensure:

  • Must have Pharmacist license in good standing with the State
  • Must have Pharmacist license in States serviced (currently Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois)
  • Must have immunization certification and current active BLS CPR certification
