Hegira Health, Inc. (HHI), a private non-profit corporation, is one of the largest freestanding behavioral healthcare agencies in the area. HHI, accredited by the Joint Commission and licensed by the State of Michigan, provides a broad array of mental health and substance abuse treatment and prevention services to individuals of all ages.
The Employment Specialist assists the Adult SMI population in reaching employment goals. The position works with both consumers and employers in this role. The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Employment model is utilized in carrying out the responsibilities of the position.
EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a social service field from an accredited college or university.
- Willingness to travel to different locations for community-based work with employers and clients.
- Broad knowledge of employment/work setting and situations.
- One or more years of experience in an employment setting that includes placement, supervision and/or training experience.
EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST RESPONSIBILITES:
- Program Participation
- Receive referral for program participation.
- Initiate contact to referral within 7 days of receipt to schedule program interview appointment.
- Complete referral documents and submit to Employment Program Coordinator with recommendations.
- Assess consumers’ interest in obtaining competitive employment.
- Ensure new admission documents are completed per policy.
Employer Searches
- Complete routine employment searches for newly available opportunities.
- Maintain regular contact with current employers and address any current issues promptly.
Facilitation of Employment Options
- Educate consumers in available employment options.
- Complete employment readiness, skills and interests’ assessments.
- With the consumer, develop readiness goals and objectives and routinely review progress.
- Educate consumers regarding job search tools.
- Assist consumers in job development and job search activities that are consistent with the principles of the Supported Employment model.
- Contact prospective employers to schedule previews of positions.
- Assist consumers in scheduling employment interviews.
- Assist consumers with application process, including but not limited to, resume preparation, interviewing skills, and reference identification.
Maintaining Employment
- Assist consumers with employment-related issues relevant to fulfilling employment requirements including, but not limited to, appropriate grooming and clothing, transportation, attendance, and completion of assignments.
- Continue assessing consumers’ vocational functioning ongoing, making adjustments to plans, goals and objectives, as indicated.
- Provide mediation in employee-employer issues.
- Provide education and support to employer, as agreed upon by the consumer.
- Perform periodic supportive, on-site work visits to ensure the consumer is completing job adequately.
- Perform periodic home visits to ensure the consumer is maintaining a lifestyle conducive to continuation of employment.
Marketing
- Provide outreach to employers to market the supportive employment program per IPS model.
- Conduct face-to-face employment program presentations.
Other
- Maintain an active caseload of 10 – 20 consumers.
- Monitor and ensure the integration of employment services with clinic services.
- Maintain professional conduct in the community while representing HegiraI.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,000.00 - $54,000.00 per year
