What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Services Librarian - Collection Management Services (Internal Library applicants only) position at Hennepin County?
The Hennepin County Library (HCL)'s Ridgedale location is seeking a Youth Services Librarian to support the Collection Management Services division. This position will be managing Gift Books support for programming.
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Ridgedale Library, 12601 Ridgedale Dr, Minnetonka, MN 55305, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:
- Collaborate with Library and Hennepin County partners to select gift materials in support of outreach and programming.
- Work with other CTS staff and Library vendors to evaluate stock availability, identify high-quality titles that meet specific criteria, and place orders.
- Communicate with stakeholders about project requirements and expectations, including establishing timelines.
- Work with Handling staff to monitor and track gift materials orders, including communicating with Library vendors as needed.
- Stay up-to-date on titles, authors, series, and trends in youth literature.
- Manage reporting and budget requirements for individual projects.
- Evaluate and select materials for system-wide summer youth gift books.
- Collect and collate branch selections of summer youth gift books annually with Library and CTS staff, and place orders with Library vendors, including working with PowerApps, Qualtrics, and similar data tools.
- Serve on the Library Summer Learning Team, including presenting information to Library staff, answering questions, and collecting and implementing feedback annually
- Document procedures and best practices for gift materials selection and ordering.
- Work with Handling and Facilities staff to arrange materials distribution to Library and Hennepin County locations.
- Sort and pack materials for distribution.
- Assist with other collection development and management projects as needed.
Need to have:
ALA (American Library Association) accredited Master's degree in Library Science or Information Science.

- Working with youth services in a library setting.
- Using MS Office suite.
- With project management, include managing budgets.
- Ordering materials and working with vendors.
- Working with youth literature collections.
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of current trends in youth literature.
- An understanding of and commitment to diversity and inclusion work.
