What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Residential Living position at Heritage Pointe Communities?
Essential Functions:
- Leadership and Management:
- Provide visionary leadership and direction for the independent and assisted living community, aligning with the overall mission and values of the CCRC.
- Develop and implement strategic goals and objectives for the residential living department, ensuring continuous improvement and resident satisfaction.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate department staff, including but not limited to nursing, caregiving, activities, and resident services personnel.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork, communication, and professional growth.
- Manage departmental budgets effectively, ensuring responsible resource allocation and fiscal accountability.
- Participate in the CCRC's leadership team, contributing to overall organizational planning and decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as CCRC policies and procedures.
- Clinical Care Oversight:
- Oversee the delivery of high-quality clinical care services within the assisted living setting, ensuring resident needs are met with compassion and expertise.
- Collaborate with the Director of Nursing or equivalent role to establish and maintain clinical policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
- Monitor resident health and well-being, ensuring appropriate assessments, care plans, and interventions are in place.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of resident care and services.
- Act as a resource for clinical staff, providing guidance and support in complex care situations.
- Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in assisted living and dementia care (if applicable).
- Customer Service Excellence:
- Champion a culture of exceptional customer service, ensuring resident and family needs and expectations are consistently met or exceeded.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance resident satisfaction and engagement.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for resident and family concerns, addressing issues promptly and effectively.
- Foster strong relationships with residents, families, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee the planning and execution of engaging social, recreational, and wellness programs that cater to the diverse interests and abilities of residents.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive quality assurance program to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of services and care delivery.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements1 and internal standards.
- Analyze data and trends to identify opportunities for enhancing resident outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Lead the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in survey processes and develop plans of correction as needed.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Resident Transitions and Admissions:
- Collaborate with the admissions team to facilitate smooth transitions for new residents into the independent and assisted living communities.
- Participate in the assessment of potential residents to determine appropriate level of care.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of admission paperwork and resident agreements.
- Oversee internal transfers between independent and assisted living based on changing resident needs.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Maintain effective communication with residents, families, staff, and other departments within the CCRC.
- Conduct regular resident and family meetings to provide updates and gather feedback.
- Collaborate effectively with other department heads (e.g., dining services, environmental services, marketing) to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Represent the residential living community in internal and external meetings as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in Nursing.
- Preferred 1 year of progressive leadership experience in a senior living or healthcare setting, with specific experience in assisted living management.
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license, with knowledge of clinical best practices in assisted living.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and quality assurance principles in senior living.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to person-centered care and resident advocacy.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including electronic health records (EHR) and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage budgets and financial resources effectively.
- Knowledge of independent and assisted living service models and best practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to perform job duties effectively.
- Ability to respond to emergencies and navigate the community quickly.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily works in an office environment within the residential living community.
- Regularly interacts with residents, families, and staff.
- May be required to work occasional evenings or weekends to address urgent issues or attend community events.
- Potential exposure to infectious diseases and other healthcare-related hazards.
