Job Role Summary

This position will be responsible for providing opioid stimulant and harm reduction education to students within the local school system. This position will provide lesson plans, assignments and other activities that will elicit student participation. This program will increase academic and social competence with the following skills: study habits and academic support; communication; peer relationships; self-efficacy and assertiveness; drug resistance skills; reinforcement of anti-drug attitudes; and strengthening of personal commitments against drug abuse. The position will be responsible for assisting schools with developing methods to provide prevention education to the targeted students, working with students to increase their knowledge about opioid and other stimulants and to encourage students to participate in programs that are directed toward behavior change. The position will provide Narcan education to the community members.

Associated Job Duties

Assessment:

  • Educate students with opioid and stimulants facts and information on how to reduce their risks of usage.
  • Utilize evidenced based curriculum to the identified student populations.
  • Disseminate information about opioids and stimulants harm reduction techniques to students and schools.
  • Responsible for oversight of program development and working with school’s implementation of opioid stimulants and harm reduction programs.
  • Understand and utilize the evaluation methodology used to assess the impact of the opioid stimulant and harm reduction programs, both internally and externally.
  • Coordinate and monitor data collection and accuracy.
  • Prepare reports on all opioid and other stimulant activities and present to designated committees.
  • Assist with the development of a student satisfaction program.
  • Serve as the liaison between MCPHD and Indianapolis Public School District (IPS) or other contracted locations.
  • Assists in consumer development and increasing consumer involvement in program activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Policy Development and Leadership:

  • Supports the MCPHD vision and mission through department presence in the community.
  • Establishes and maintains effective lines of communication and collaboration with IPS, targeted populations and other program areas within the MCPHD. (3,4)
  • Assists in the development of programs objectives that target identified student populations at risk
  • Develop, implement, and maintain protocols, policies, and procedures for the SUOS program.
  • Ensure that all personnel actions are in accordance with Health and Hospital Corporation policies and procedures.
  • Additional Duties:
  • Serve on appropriate committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Participation in Health Fairs.

Qualifications

  • Completion bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or allied health field is preferred; or three years related experience and training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years’ experience in program planning and evaluation.
  • Experience in providing outreach and health education services in a group setting.
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills and three to five years of progressively responsible professional work experience.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Exposure to communicable disease, illness and irate community members.
  • Some physical effort associated with filing, carrying of supplies for health fairs, travel between main office and meetings, program site(s), and health fairs.
