Job Title : Warm Springs Tribal Food Access Coordinator

Reports to : Food Access Manager

Location : Primarily Warm Springs

Classification : Non-exempt

Status : Part-time seasonal, approximately 10-20 hours per week between Mid-April and Mid-November. Candidates must be able to work at all Thursday markets during the summer from 9am - 2pm (2025 market dates still TBD)

Compensation : $23-$25 per hour depending on experience

Start Date : Mid-April 2025

The High Desert Food and Farm Alliance (HDFFA) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support a healthy and thriving food and farm network in Central Oregon through education, collaboration and inclusivity. We meet our mission by fostering relationships between producers (farmers, ranchers and food businesses) and consumers, increasing awareness of and access to food from our region, and cultivating community participation with local food. We serve farmers, ranchers, food businesses, nonprofits and underserved families in the high desert region of Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson Counties and on the Warm Springs Reservation.We believe everyone deserves good food.

About this opportunity

HDFFA is looking for a part-time, seasonal Tribal Food Access Coordinator to join our food access team. In this role youll be supporting the planning, implementation, and evaluation of our VeggieRx and Fresh Harvest Kit programs and related food sovereignty events on the Warm Springs Reservation. This position is integral to fostering food security, enhancing nutrition, and bringing community-driven solutions to the forefront that honor the cultural traditions and sovereignty of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. The Coordinator will work with Tribal leaders, community members, local farmers, and partner organizations to improve access to healthy, culturally-relevant foods while promoting sustainable food systems and food sovereignty.

You are passionate about improving food access for all Central Oregonians and specifically promoting food access and sovereignty for the Warm Springs Tribal community. With lived or working experience in the community, you are comfortable collaborating with Tribal leaders, community members and partner organizations and are excited about engaging with the public at community events and our food access distribution sites, like the Thursday market. You are a creative problem solver, with excellent communication, time-management, and organization skills which will allow you to effectively coordinate our VeggieRx and Fresh Harvest Kit programming within the community. Youre excited to share your experience and knowledge with the HDFFA team and help us grow and refine our Warm Springs programming and outreach efforts.

Primary Responsibilities & Functions

Community Outreach & Communication (10%)

  • Represent HDFFA at community meetings & events, as needed (ex., Pi-Ume-Sha Health Fair, Native Aspiration meetings, ECE events, etc.)
  • Coordinate the promotion of HDFFAs food access programs and events to the Warm Springs community
  • Work alongside the Food Access Manager to coordinate Warm Springs food access events (cooking classes, tastings, demonstrations, etc.)
  • Co-host Warm Springs food access & food sovereignty focus groups
  • Identify and develop new partnerships with local organizations, Tribal departments, or businesses that align with HDFFAs mission
  • Recruit local volunteers for program-related tasks in Warm Springs
  • Assist in member recruitment for HDFFAs Food Security Advisory Committee

Food Access Programming (85%)

  • Oversee smooth enrollment, coordination & distribution of Fresh Harvest Kits & VeggieRx within the Warm Springs community
  • Distribute Fresh Harvest Kits at the Thursday market each summer, as needed.
  • Coordinate, organize and transport food access supplies to and within Warm Springs, as needed
  • Communicate regularly with partner farms, distribution partners and HDFFA staff
  • Conduct surveys regarding VeggieRx, Fresh Harvest Kits and food preferences with participants and community members
  • Craft programming recommendations that consider cultural values and community-specific needs
  • Maintain clear communication with HDFFAs Food Access Manager, VeggieRx Senior Manager, Program Director and other staff as necessary via phone, email, and check-in meetings
  • General HDFFA Functions (5%)

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the mission, vision, core values, food access programs and events of HDFFA
  • Distribute HDFFA resources, including our 2025 Food and Farm Directory and High Desert Food Trail maps
  • Maintain tabling supplies for Warm Springs Thursday Market and return at end of season
  • Required Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and organization skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Strong time-management and prioritization abilities
  • Ability to creatively solve problems
  • Ability to engage with participants in a positive, respectful, professional manner
  • Lived and / or working experience within the Warm Springs Reservation and knowledge of the geography, community networks and local resources
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with community partners & stakeholders
  • Familiarity with Indigenous food systems and sovereignty
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision as part of a dispersed team
  • Ability to work on Thursdays at the Warm Springs Thursday Market from June - September
  • Willingness to occasionally travel for supply coordination and delivery, as needed
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds safely
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Program coordination or other administrative experience
  • Event coordination experience
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations or in community development programs
  • Prior work in food access, community health, or food system initiatives.
  • Benefits

  • Accrued sick leave at a rate of 1.33 hours accrued for every 40 hours worked
  • Eligible to participate in HDFFAs SIMPLE IRA retirement benefit
  • The candidate must possess a current, valid, Oregon driver's license. In addition the candidate will need to provide a 5-year motor vehicle record obtained through DMV2U - Login (oregon.gov) that includes no license suspensions or major violations in the last five years.

    Mileage reimbursement will be provided at the federal mileage rate when a personal vehicle is used for HDFFA business.
