The High Mountain Institute is seeking an Administrative Coordinator & Registrar, a full-time position at the High Mountain Institute. The Administrative Coordinator & Registrar is charged with managing administrative responsibilities for HMI and reports to the Director of Academics and Faculty.


Position Responsibilities

  • Manage all administrative duties for the school, including the front office, bookstore, class and student supplies/ordering, general supply ordering, petty cash, and online store
  • Partner with Directors of the HMI Semester on student, family, and staff needs and projects
  • Manage relevant functions of the High Mountain Institute’s Student Information System (Salesforce, Finalsite)
  • Utilize database skills to create data queries and prepare reports as needed to support students as well as advancement
  • Assist all semester students, faculty, and families with enrollment, onboarding, travel, clerical, medical, and administrative tasks as needed
  • Manage the High Mountain Institute’s standards-based teaching and learning platform (JumpRope): update class rosters, create academic progress reports, and create final academic transcripts for families and sending schools
  • Create and maintain the master semester class schedule in collaboration with the Director of Academics and Faculty and other academic leaders
  • Manage the coordination and/or administration of all standardized and AP testing in collaboration with other academic leaders, including the PSAT, SAT, and AP exams 
  • Provide assistance to the Head of School and Director of Finance as requested
  • Assist HMI Administration as requested, including taking Board Meeting minutes
  • QuickBooks data entry and payment processing
  • Manage all incoming and outgoing mail/packages, answer the phone, assist with printer/copier troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Help plan and run special HMI events such as Family Weekend and End of Semester Celebration
  • Serve the HMI mission as necessary, possibly including but not limited to:
  • Advise at least one cohort of students per academic year
  • Lead two to three expeditions per year (inclusive of Summer Term)
  • Teach one section of an HMI Semester class (e.g. Practices and Principles: Ethics of the Natural World)


Position Benefits:

  • Dependent on experience: $43,000 - $51,000 (inclusive of possible on-campus housing)

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • WFR medical certification or intent to obtain such
  • Prior experience in clerical and/or community-facing work
  • Self-directed, motivated, and organized
  • Valid Social Security number or authorization to work in the US
  • English language proficiency
  • Knowledge of office equipment (copiers, printers, fax machines, etc.)
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, Google Docs & Sheets, Salesforce, Gmail, Quickbooks)
  • Desire to work with and around teenagers in a school environment

Founded in 1995, HMI is a nonprofit independent school with a focus on outdoor, experiential, and place-based education. HMI serves approximately 175 students per year across its high school, summer, and gap programming. About 30% of students receive financial aid and a similar percentage identify as people of color. All HMI students participate in extended wilderness expeditions lasting from 10-21 days. HMI is not a rehabilitative or wilderness therapy program.
