The Highland County Board of Supervisors seeks a highly skilled and experienced Part-Time County Attorney to join their team.
About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented attorney to provide expert legal advice and representation to the Highland County Board of Supervisors, its constitutional officers, and various county departments.
- Provide legal counsel on a wide range of matters, including solid waste removal, budgetary issues, and zoning regulations.
- Advise constitutional officers on county ordinances and other relevant matters.
- Collaborate with the Building and Zoning Administrator, Planning Commission, and Board of Zoning Appeals on land use and development projects.
- Develop and implement policies, ordinances, easements, deeds, leases, and legal memoranda.
- Review contracts submitted to the county and constitutional officers, and prepare reports related to that review.
Key Qualifications:
- Must be a current Virginia Bar member.
- Should have at least five years of experience in local government law.
- Excellent writing and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to explain complex legal concepts in plain English.
- Prior experience in zoning matters is desirable.
- Must be able to understand complex legal issues and write clear, concise memoranda explaining those issues to non-attorneys.
- The successful candidate must pass pre-employment background checks.
