JOB TITLE: Crisis Residential Program Counselor
SUMMARY: Beginning professional work managing cases of chronic mentally ill clients. Work includes counseling, working with families and teaching
life management and emotional management skills.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates in individual, group and family education and classroom instruction.
2. Provides outreach and follow-up services to clients and families and maintains collateral contacts with appropriate agencies.
3. Completes all required administrative and clinical paperwork.
4. Participates in staff meetings.
5. May handle after hour emergencies.
6. May consult with Medical Director regarding client’s medication and other clinical matters.
7. May maintain the program waiting list and/or organize and conduct a parent / family organization.
8. Responsible for the storage and protection of consumer records, including compliance with the Heath Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
9. Must be certified in first aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). CPR certification requires that the employee be able to physically demonstrate that he or she is able to perform the skill on-the-ground (i.e., as in a real life situation) as specified in CCMHB policy.
10. Performs other reasonable, related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management, as required.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with clients, family members, staff and outside agencies.
2. Considerable knowledge of mental disabilties and / or mental illness, emotional and behavioral disturbances.
3. Considerable knowledge of therapeutic techniques and the ability to effectively apply them.
4. Possess a high degree of organizational skills.
5. Must demonstrate the ability to work well with staff and clients in a polite, respectful and dignified manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in a social service related field from an accredited university.
Valid Alabama Driver's License.
Must be able to lift 70 pounds.
One year experience.
