As a registered nurse in a medical/surgical unit, I implement the nursing process to provide direct patient care according to established protocols. Responsibilities include administering medications, monitoring patient conditions, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team for comprehensive patient care. I educate patients and their families on health management while advocating for their emotional and physical well-being.
Description:
Directly cares for patients using the nursing process according to applicable scope and standards of practice.
Reports to: Director of Nursing
Performs interventions as part of the plan of care, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care.
Documents patient care provided.
Maintains accurate records of patient condition and communicates appropriately with the care team, physician, patient, and family.
Assists patients with activities of daily living, such as personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates patient learning needs and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
Maintains vigilance regarding central monitor screens, interpreting and recognizing changes in patient rhythms, and notifies the nurse or physician as necessary.
Participates in Handle with Care annually or CPI participation every two years.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree, or RN Diploma required.
Required Skills:
Utilizes critical thinking skills, makes decisive judgments, and works with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.
American Heart Association or American Red Cross Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire or within 90 days of employment, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within six months of employment.
License:
Current TN or Multi-State RN licensure.
Minimum Work Experience:
Six months to one year experience as an RN. New Graduates will be considered.
