Position Overview

The Wheel Refinishing Technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing a range of wheel damage, ensuring vehicles meet safety and performance standards. This role involves detailed surface preparation, cosmetic refinishing, and structural repair work on alloy and steel wheels. You’ll operate a variety of equipment, including spray systems, power tools, and wheel balancing machinery, to restore wheels to OEM specifications. Additionally, you’ll assist with tire-related services to support overall vehicle performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Straighten and true bent wheels to restore proper balance and alignment
  • Execute tire services such as mounting, balancing, rotations, and flat repairs
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment

  • Document work completed and communicate repair details with service advisors or customers when needed
  • Support shop operations with additional tasks as required

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Automotive painting, collision repair training, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of wheel materials (aluminum, alloy, steel) and refinishing processes
  • Proficiency in using pneumatic tools, power sanders, spray equipment, and balancing machines
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and repair instructions
  • Excellent visual acuity, including color differentiation, depth perception, and attention to detail
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation and service tracking
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift 50 lbs consistently
  • Reliable, safety-focused, and committed to high-quality workmanship

Join Tire Trac’s expert team and play a key role in restoring performance, safety, and appearance to vehicles across Detroit.
