THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN LOS BANOS CA.
SUMMARY
This is an Industrial Engine Field Technician based position with an emphasis on individuals who possess expertise in Cat Diesel engines in nut harvest equipment, or persons who have knowledge on other manufacturers of diesel and gas engines at customers’ sites.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Repairs and maintains diesel engines in Industrial applications including nut harvest equipment.
- Performs field service, repairs and installation of customers’ equipment.
- Operate Company service vehicle and applicable equipment to include lift trucks.
- Maybe requested at times to perform shop service or repairs on customers’ equipment when applicable.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose customer complaints to determine the most effective or efficient repair using assigned test equipment, Caterpillar fuel setting group, electronic volt-ohm meter, battery and starting analyzer, and trade tools.
- Perform routine scheduled maintenance and inspection according to manufacturer’s specification including removal of engine set for repair or replacement.
- Perform major engine or component overhaul including remove, and installation.
- Driving may be required.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and/or five years related experience.
- Successful completion or equivalent knowledge of the following product areas: Caterpillar Engine Electronics and Caterpillar C2.2 through C18 engine lines.
- Must have a strong diesel engine background. Knowledge with Caterpillar electronic engines is a plus but not necessary.
- Experience with nut harvest equipment.
- Must have the ability to effectively work on a laptop computer with knowledge of window-based programs.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to read and comprehend written instruction, effectively write electronic service reports, effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to internal and external customers and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute KW, KVA, rate, ratio and percentage.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
ELECTRICAL FUNDAMENTALS
- Ability to read electrical schematics and one-line diagrams.
- Ability to apply ohm’s law and understand basic electrical formulae.
- Rudimentary knowledge of motor controls, circuits, and distribution.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Forklift Operator Certificate required within the first year of employment.

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high or precarious places, and the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
COMPENSATIONS
Pay Range: $35.00 - $42.49 Hourly.
Pay Range Dependent on Knowledge, Skills, and Ability.
Wage depends on knowledge, skills and ability to perform the responsibilities of the job.
