The Department of Human Services is seeking a tenure-track full-time faculty member to teach an Introduction to Social Work course, Introduction to Social Work Policy course, and collaborate with existing tenure track faculty on revising and developing additional coursework to transition the Department of Human Services curriculum to a CSWE competency-aligned curriculum that facilitates student transfer to partner institutions in Massachusetts with CSWE accredited Social Work programs or entry into the human services work sector.


The successful candidate will have a record of excellence in teaching Social Work content, demonstrated experience with progressive, student-centered teaching strategies, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.  


The successful candidate will be familiar with CSWE competencies at the associate degree level and be able to revise curriculum in alignment with these competencies.  The successful candidate will have experience supervising Social Work interns in the clinical or community agency setting, they will take primary responsibility for expanding and developing affiliation agreements with local clinics and community agencies for student practicums, evaluate the appropriateness of practicums for student learning each year, and assist the department in the development/revision of its practicum policies and procedures.


The successful candidate will be expected to build and reinforce relationships with transfer and professional programs on and off campus to ensure our students are successful, competitive applicants for university transfer and career opportunities.


In addition to teaching, candidates should show dedication to mentoring and advising students, collaborating with colleagues, contributing to program assessment and development, and engaging with the broader campus and community through departmental service and shared governance on campus.


This is primarily an on-campus position although limited hybrid teaching opportunities may be available. Supervising students in practicum involves conducting observations at community agencies within the Pioneer Valley.

  1. Teach a full-time course load consisting primarily of Introduction to Social Work and Introduction to Social Work Policy courses with opportunities to teach additional courses based upon department needs, faculty interest, and new program developments and innovations.
  2. Collaborate with Human Service faculty to:
    • Develop innovative and relevant methods for teaching Social Work related subject matter that adhere to CSWE competencies and ethical values in the classroom.
    • Research, develop, and implement CSWE competencies into the department’s curriculum and align curriculum with CSWE accredited programs in Massachusetts.
    • Implement and evaluate research-based pedagogical strategies that support diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
    • Determine and implement appropriate evaluative strategics that support the stated competencies of the curriculum
    • Support student learning outside the classroom through activities like mentoring and holding accessible office hours.
    • Regularly update syllabi for accuracy.
    • Develop and assess student learning outcomes, ensuring they promote equitable learning experiences and support students from all backgrounds.
    • Assist in the development of transfer pathways into BSW programs.
  3. Hold primary responsibility for student practicums, which includes:
    • Conduct seminars as part of the department’s practicum course.
    • Ensure practicum students are placed in field sites that provide appropriate learning experiences.
    • Evaluate student learning in the field through direct and indirect observation.
    • Develop relationships with community agencies to increase access to practicum placements and ensure all practicums have affiliation agreements
    • Develop and adopt field policies and procedures that support student learning, safety, and ethical adherence in the field.
  4. Maintain expertise in areas of social work specialization.
  5. Participate in department, division, and professional staff meetings, along with other components of college governance and service.
  6. Advise students as a faculty advisor.
  7. Engage in college programs and community service activities that promote HCC’s mission: Educate, Inspire, and Connect.
REQUIRED:  
  • Master’s degree in social work, with an unencumbered LICSW or LMSW, and/or ADC, CAC, or CADC certification; a minimum of 5 years of social work licensure in Massachusetts;  
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, with a commitment to inclusive, interactive, and varied pedagogical strategies;
  • Experience using technology in both classroom and laboratory settings to enhance learning;
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively on projects and initiatives;
  • The ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds, including those of varying abilities, ages, ethnicities, races, sexual orientations, and gender identities.

NOTE:  A teaching demonstration will be a required part of the interview process.

PREFERRED: 
  • Doctorate in Social Work;
  • Experience overseeing interns in the field setting;
  • Community college teaching experience in a diverse or Hispanic Serving Institution.

Full-time, tenure-track MCCC/MTA position 


Salary:  Minimum $57,013 - $65,361.  Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits.
