Controller

This position is a 100% On-Site Salary Position located in Urbandale, IA. If you do not currently live in or near Des Moines, IA, relocation to the Des Moines, IA metro will be required. 

Salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000

Please note that the final salary for this position will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's experience, qualifications, and the scope of the role.

Position Overview

The Controller is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the accounting functions of the organization. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective management of the accounting team. The Controller will collaborate with senior leadership to drive strategic financial planning and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Management: Lead the accounting department in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant regulations.
• Budgeting and Forecasting: Direct the annual budgeting process, providing insights and analyses that align financial goals with the organization’s strategic objectives.
• Internal Controls: Establish and maintain robust internal controls to protect company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
• Audit Coordination: Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors, ensuring timely and efficient audits while adhering to all regulatory requirements.
• Cash Flow Oversight: Monitor cash flow, manage working capital, and implement strategies to optimize liquidity for operational needs.
• Tax Compliance: Ensure timely compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, overseeing tax filings and audits as necessary.
• Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor the Accounting Manager and Payroll Administrator, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages professional development.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to provide financial insights that support operational decision-making and enhance organizational performance.
• Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance financial processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting and finance, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards (GAAP).
• Proven experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with all levels of the organization.
