Position: Vegetation Management Right-of-Way Specialist – Full Time

Job Summary: The Vegetation Management Right-of-Way (ROW) Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring that vegetation along transmission and distribution lines is effectively managed to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient utility operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing vegetation management programs, and will work closely with other teams to minimize the risks of outages and maintain regulatory compliance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and execute vegetation management programs along utility corridors to ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental best practices.
- Conduct field inspections to assess vegetation growth, identify potential hazards, and recommend appropriate action plans to mitigate risks to utility infrastructure.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of contractors performing vegetation management tasks, ensuring work is done according to specifications, within budget, and on schedule.
- Ensure vegetation management activities comply with environmental regulations, including endangered species protection, waterway buffers, and soil erosion control.
- Utilize GIS tools and software to map ROW areas, document vegetation management work, and track progress of maintenance efforts.
- Work closely with other departments (e.g., engineering, safety, compliance) to ensure the successful execution of vegetation management plans. Act as a point of contact for local communities, landowners, and regulatory bodies regarding vegetation management concerns.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on vegetation management activities, program effectiveness, and areas of concern to management.
- Ensure all vegetation management work adheres to safety protocols and standards, promoting a culture of safety within the team and among contractors
Qualifications & Abilities:
- A bachelor’s degree in forestry, environmental science, natural resources, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in vegetation management, right-of-way maintenance, or related areas, preferably in the utility or energy industry. (Equivalent work experience in a relevant field may be considered in lieu of a degree)
- ISA Arborist certification or related professional certifications are desirable
- Strong working knowledge of vegetation management techniques, tools, and equipment.
- Familiarity with GIS software, mapping, and data analysis tools is a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, engineering diagrams, and regulations.
- Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and uneven terrain.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various job sites as needed.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as necessary
