Position Summary

Provide high quality rape crisis center advocacy services to survivors of sexual violence in hospitals and through the 24 / 7 hotline managed by H&H and H&H. Job responsibilities include utilizing a trauma-informed approach when responding to survivors, co-survivors, and community members via hospital accompaniment, as well as phone and web-based chat lines. Collect and disseminate client information and data for the H&H and H&H services

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in communication, public relations, women’s studies, social work, criminal justice, psychology, or related field strongly preferred or relevant experience in working with survivors of trauma.
  • Victim advocacy training and / or experience preferred.
  • Maintain valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations)

Role and Responsibilities

  • Respond to hospital requests in Summit and Medina Counties to provide rape crisis center advocacy and support services to survivors of sexual violence, human trafficking, and intimate partner violence.
  • Respond to emergency hotline calls and online chat option from survivors and co-survivors of sexual violence and intimate partner violence on behalf of H&H. This includes community members, professionals, police stations, and hospitals.
  • Utilize crisis intervention best practices including safety planning, trauma-informed care, brainstorming, and listening skills to provide compassionate support to all survivors. Support hotline callers with emotional support and provide accurate referrals to community services upon request.
  • Complete minimum of 40-hour training in compliance with OAESV and ODVN best practices.
  • Maintain anonymous / confidential record-keeping for all survivors and co-survivor contacts.
  • Assist with H&H data collection by completing accurate and timely documentation of client services.
  • Works cooperatively with other staff members and volunteers to ensure best practices in service delivery.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures, federal and state requirements, CARF Standards and educational / certification / registry requirements including Service Excellence Standards while always representing the mission and philosophy of Hope and Healing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Physical demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; step up and down; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk, hear and drive. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Work environment : This position will be in a facility with victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. In addition to interaction with the survivors, the employee may have interactions with families of these individuals, the assailants and law enforcement.

  • Full-time, part time and sub; non-exempt
  • Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with diverse populations.
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Excel.
