Job Title: Resident Assistant (RA)

You will play a pivotal role in the everyday responsibilities, tasks and interaction with our valued clients. You will be responsible for a variety of support tasks that are essential to the healing and therapeutic environment of Hope Haven by monitoring and overseeing patient compliance with our program.
The Resident Assistant assists in client orientation to the Hope Haven facility and program, often being the primary point of contact during residency and providing emotional support and assistance to clients in crisis (under the direction of our highly capable and experienced clinical team). You will participate in transporting and supervising clients to and from their activities, monitor their attendance and participation in those activities, and assist with any self-administration of their medications. You will also participate in any activities or therapies as needed (and is appropriate) and contribute to any performance improvement processes as directed.

DUTIES
- Daily written and verbal communication with medical, clinical and administrative staff members
- Transport Residents
- Monitor Security Cameras
- Taking on the daily tasks and duties of running a household according to Hope Haven’s program guidelines
- Provide administrative support to the Residential Manager
- Daily interaction with clients who often exude behaviors of anxiety, illness, emotional upset, hostility, or are disabled or elderly
- Every day is different; some days are unpredictable and your work is subject to overriding work schedules, shift changes and the needs that arise from client care
REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate
- 1-3 years experience in the behavioral health/substance abuse field
- CPR certification
- Current, valid Driver’s License
- Specialized training or knowledge in behavioral health and/or chemical dependency preferred
- Ability to work with males and females, adult (18 ) substance abuse/dual diagnosed population

Distinguishing Characteristics:
Primary responsibility for variety of support tasks essential to maintenance of therapeutic milieu. Monitors and oversees patient compliance with program boundaries and rules. Assists in orientation to facility and program. Provides emotional support and assistance to clients in crisis, under direction of the clinical team. Participates in transport and supervision of clients to and from activities. Responsible for monitoring attendance at activities. Assists with client self-administration of medications. Participates in therapeutic activities as appropriate. Participates in performance improvement process as directed.
Supervision is provided through:

Working Environment:
Office space is provided by the facility with materials, equipment and supplies necessary to perform assigned tasks. Hope Haven is a drug free workplace.
Physical/Emotional Demands/Working Conditions:
Work is sedentary. Must read, write, and speak English fluently. Occasional physical exertion (lifting 30 or more pounds, walking, standing, etc.) to support patient weight in case of emergency situation or patient disability requiring assistance in walking, standing, etc. Must be able to see, stoop, sit, stand, bend and reach. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, emotionally upset, elderly, hostile people as needed. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with the medical, nursing, clinical and other staff. Must be emotionally stable and exhibit ability to display coping skills to deal with multiple duties and priorities. Risk of exposure to infections and contagious/blood borne diseases. Exposed to varying and unpredictable situations (i.e., resident behavior). Subject to work schedule and shift change. Scheduled for “on call” duty, as needed.
