Position Summary
Responsible for providing group counseling to persons with substance use disorders, which complies with current professional and regulatory standards for the profession. This dynamic, internally-motivated professional will oversee the emotional and behavioral well-being of our clients by establishing rapport, systematically gathering data, applying accepted criteria for diagnosis of substance use disorders, and developing and/or implementing comprehensive strength-based group material. Collaborates with other behavioral health team members in treatment planning by applying specialized skills, knowledge and experience of human development and behaviors and social, economic, and cultural systems in directly assisting clients, families and groups to improve or restore their capacity for social functioning. Provides group counseling with the use of psychosocial interventions and psychotherapy, documents services in the clinical record and engages in inter-departmental care coordination. Demonstrates commitment to, and application of, professional code of ethics for their credentials/professional status.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Utilize knowledge and skills to provide group psychotherapy, meeting the patient’s treatment needs and requirements.
- Document client progress/regression according to established policies and procedures in a clear, concise, timely manner.
- Provide pertinent patient information to the clinical team based on evaluation in group session interactions, to assist in the patient treatment process.
- Demonstrate good communication skills.
- Continue with educational courses and in-services training, per policies and procedures.
- Respond positively to changing situations in the work setting.
- Work as a team member, demonstrating maturity under stress and objectivity.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Knowledge of health information related to adult health, SUD, and dual-diagnosis.
- Good understanding of clinical evidenced-based modalities such as motivational interviewing.
- Cultural sensitivity and desire to work with an ethnically diverse adult population.
- Maintain networking relationships with community service providers.
- Desire and experience working within a drug and alcohol treatment program.
- General understanding of chemical dependency and self-help philosophy.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals in a positive, supportive, and cooperative manner.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret related professional periodicals, journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
- Communicate positively and effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of individuals and constituencies.
- Ability to partner and collaborate with interdisciplinary staff or workers.
- Ability to demonstrate consistent professionalism in the execution of duties and responsibilities.
- Compliance with the company’s Participant Guidelines and Procedures.
- Able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Must be able to submit a Health Screening Report (DHCS 5077 - Residential Facilities)
- Must have a negative Tuberculosis test result
- Knowledge of basic principles, practices and techniques of mental health and drug and alcohol intervention.
- Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edit work for spelling and grammar. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; and participates in meetings.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of current utilized technology and EMR software (i.e. Kipu) (Preferred)
Licenses/Certifications
- Registered or Certified through CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP and in good standing OR
- Licensed through the Board of Behavioral Sciences/Board of Psychology to provide counseling services.
- CPR and First Aid Certified

Walking, bending, and kneeling which will occur with moderate lifting of 30 or more pounds (suitcases, packages, supplies, etc.). This position must be able to support client weight in case of emergency situation or client disability requiring assistance in walking, etc. There is a risk of exposure to bodily fluids infections, contagious / blood borne diseases, and chemicals (cleaning agents); there is a risk of exposure to varying, unpredictable situations (i.e., client behavior).
