What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Support Specialist (Tier 2) position at Horizon Behavioral Health?
Hours: full-time (37.5 hours per week), Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Location: Lynchburg VA, 24501
Position Summary
The IT Support Specialist (Tier 2) will serve in a help desk work environment and will report to the Network and Systems Support Manager.
Required Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field (bachelor’s preferred but not required). Equivalent work experience may substitute for formal education.
- 2–4 years of experience in an IT support or help desk role, including prior Tier 1 help desk experience with demonstrated progression to more advanced troubleshooting, with hands-on experience with hardware, software, and network troubleshooting.
- Preferred certifications: CompTIA A , Comp TIA Network , CompTIA Security , Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, ITIL Foundation Certification, HDI Desktop Support Technician (DST).
Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of: Windows operating system; networking concepts (OSI Model, ICMP, TCP/IP, DNS, VPN); Active Directory, group policies, and user management; IT security principles (firewalls, antivirus, encryption); enterprise applications (Microsoft 365, SharePoint), Hardware and software troubleshooting techniques; ITIL best practices and ticketing systems (Track IT or other comparable). Knowledge of scripting (PowerShell/Batch) is a plus.
- Ability to: perform advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving; provided articulate written and verbal instructions and explain technical concepts to non-technical users; provide assistance with remote support and desktop management tools.
- Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holidays, etc.) as required; Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites.
