Overview
Horizon Farm Credit is actively seeking an Accounting Officer (Tax Advisor) to join our team. Qualified candidate may work in the Denton, MD, Dover, DE or Georgetown, DE branch location. This position is eligible for hybrid work schedule after 6 months of successful employment. Our ideal candidate is an experienced, organized, detail-oriented, and analytical tax professional with an enthusiasm to support the agricultural community.
Position Description: Accounting Officers (Tax Advisors) will provide services to accounting, record and income tax return customers with a high level of quality, accuracy, and efficiency. These services include consultative accounting services, payroll processing services, tax planning and preparation, and record keeping. Promotes related services, actively participates in product referrals, business development, and public relations activities, and maintains a favorable Farm Credit image. Operates under the general supervision of the Accounting and Consulting Services Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintains and builds strong client relationships, gaining a thorough understanding of the business and related business goals.
- Serves as a trusted partner, advising customers on sound accounting and financial management best practices. Advises on appropriate tax, accounting, and strategy solutions to aid customers in achieving success.
- Delivers accounting advice and services with a thorough understanding of state and federal tax laws and regulations. Gathers complete and accurate financial data to prepare tax returns, financial reports, records and payroll services.
- Grows business in assigned territory to achieve billable hour and revenue goals.
- Works with Farm Credit teammates and centers of influence to develop new business as well as expanding the relationships of existing customers.
- Actively participate in educational programs for customers & prospects and are engaged with Horizon staff to share their product knowledge. Participates in regional team meetings to provide pertinent updates on products & services.
Education
- Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or related field. Must obtain and maintain Preparer Tax Identification Number.
- Certified Public Accountant or Enrolled Agent certification is preferred.
Experience
- Documented experience in tax preparation, with an understanding of farm and business taxes preferred.
- Basic working knowledge of farm accounting principles and their application is a plus.
- Identifies and understands required customer information needed to provide payroll, records, and tax return services, as well as basic consultative services.

- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and efficiently with a high degree of accuracy to meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient interpersonal relations, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to travel within assigned territory as required, including meeting with customers, prospects, and referral generators.
- Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Adaptable and flexible to a changing work environment.

Salary Range: $70,000 – $90,000, Depending on previous experience. Opportunity to earn additional annual bonus incentive.
