SUMMARY: Providing safe and quality food is the job of all House of Flavors employees. The Sanitation Technician, an at-will employee working under the direction of the Sanitation Manager and Supervisor, works to sanitize equipment using methods prescribed by the Food Safety Program. The Sanitation Technician works independently or with others; troubleshoots mechanical problems; accurately documents cleaning procedures; and, works safely with a variety of cleaning chemicals. All Good Manufacturing Practices and general safety practices are observed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Cleans and sanitizes process equipment which includes: tanks, freezers, fillers, pumps, pipes, product contact surfaces, conveyors and any other production equipment.
2. Disassembles and reassembles equipment using lock-out and tag-out procedures; following all food safety Good Manufacturing Practices and using proper set up methods.
3. Cleans floors, walls, and ceilings of production area and adjacent areas as necessary to the cleaning standard set by the Food Safety Practices.
4. Removes trash, waste, and debris to proper area and assists production when necessary.
5. Operates Clean-In-Place system and documents and troubleshoots CIP system when assigned.
6. Performs preventative maintenance and sanitation on pumps, valves, and gaskets as needed.
7. Recognizes allergen related issues, knows the House of Flavors, Inc. allergen procedure/policy.
8. Works as a member of the Sanitation Technician team, learning the jobs of different work stations included in this job description, enabling the ability to rotate from job to job giving breaks or filling in when other employees are absent.
9. Completes all other duties as assigned, including working with the Sanitation Manager and other managers to enhance the overall profitability of the operation.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility to the appropriate company standard. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent is required along with a minimum of 3 months of work experience in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to work co-operatively in a team environment is essential.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and write in order to follow instructions; create and respond to documents; understand and follow company policies; and effectively present information verbally to others.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations and understand simple numerical specifications including temperature and time calculations.
REASONING ABILITY: Is mechanically inclined and has the ability to apply common sense understanding to disassemble and reassemble equipment, carry out written or verbal instructions and has a basic understanding of mechanical processes to carry out the operation of machines.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand, including walking, for periods of time up to 12 hours. The constant use of hands and arms during this time including lifting, pulling, reaching, and fine manipulation is required. The use of hand tools requiring a substantial grip is required. The employee is occasionally required to stoop or crouch. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee cannot be allergic to the required cleaning chemicals.
The employee must be able to lift 10 to 20 pounds continuously, 30 pounds frequently, and 50 to 75 pounds occasionally.

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee regularly works with moving mechanical components and is regularly exposed to high levels of noise. Safety equipment may be required. The employee works in a wet environment where floors are slippery and splashing water, ice cream ingredients and sanitation solution is frequently present. The employee’s clothing can get wet.
COMMENTS AND/OR ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Employee is required to wear an approved uniform which is provided by the company. Employee is required to wear safety toed boots that can withstand water, food products, and chemical contact. Employee is required to wear a hairnet and, if facial hair is present, a beard net. The use of latex and other protective gloves is often required.
