Our client, a well-established insurance company on Long Island, is seeking a Director of Finance to lead financial operations and reporting. This high-visibility role will oversee statutory accounting, financial reporting, and strategic planning, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and driving financial performance. The Director of Finance will manage a team of three direct reports and collaborate closely with executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of statutory accounting and financial reporting to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies, including NAIC and state insurance departments.
- Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual statutory filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage a team of three finance professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance management.
- Partner with senior leadership on financial strategy, budgeting, and forecasting to support long-term growth and profitability.
- Develop and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures to maintain compliance and improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with actuarial, underwriting, and claims teams to provide financial insights and support business decision-making.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- 7 years of experience in financial reporting and accounting.
- Strong knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP) and regulatory requirements.
- Previous experience managing a team and leading financial operations.
- CPA or equivalent designation preferred.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with senior executives and department heads.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
