Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support veterinarians in providing high-quality care for animals, assisting with various tasks that ensure the health and well-being of pets. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The HSMC is a drug free workplace.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures by restraining animals safely and effectively.
- Perform laboratory tests and assist in the collection of samples for diagnostic purposes.
- Provide basic animal husbandry, including feeding, grooming, and exercising animals in our care.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kennel area, ensuring a safe environment for all animals.
- Administer medications as directed by veterinarians and monitor animals for any adverse reactions.
- Utilize aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection and ensure animal safety.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding their pets’ health, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
- Keep accurate records of patient information, treatments administered, and any observations made during care.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role is required.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology and animal physiology is required.
- Familiarity with animal restraint techniques and basic animal care practices.
- Ability to perform laboratory tasks such as sample collection and analysis.
- Strong understanding of aseptic techniques to maintain a sterile environment during procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact positively with clients and team members.
- A genuine love for animals and a commitment to their welfare.
