Job Description
Title : Accounting Coordinator
Department : Finance
Reports to : Finance Manager
Salary Level : Job Purpose :
Daily accounting functions, including, but not limited to, daily processing of mail and other HSSA receipts. Maintains cash receipts journal. Directly assists Finance department staff in the timely monthly closing and preparation of financial statements and other tasks.
Essential Duties :
- Responsible for the cash receipts journal
- Prepare deposits per cash deposit policy.
- Process and file daily paperwork and as assigned.
- Process incoming mail.
- Record donations and department revenues in accounting system
- Follow month end task list and prepare reports as necessary.
- Reconcile bank accounts
- Perform other account reconciliations as required
- Maintain lists of Litter and Gift certificates; reconcile monthly; prepare journal entries
- Keep Chief Financial Officer informed as to any problems regarding shortages, theft
- Recommends improvements to systems for efficiency and control
- Perform customer service to the standards set forth in HSSA employee manual.
- May train and supervise volunteers for Finance Department.
- May drive company vehicle in performance of company business.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions : Work is performed at an animal shelter in a shared office space. Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, animal bites and scratches. Potential exposure of infectious diseases to owned animals. Exposure to high noise levels when in kennels.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA), founded in 1944, is a private, independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization with the mission of acting with compassion and responsible stewardship through innovative programs that serve pets and the people who love them. HSSA is the largest charitable animal welfare and protection agency in Southern Arizona with 100 employees and 1300 volunteers. In 2018, HSSA moved into a new state-of the-art animal shelter and spay / neuter clinic.
