Description

JOB SUMMARY:  The Director of Development is responsible for creating and managing a comprehensive development and fundraising program to support the mission, vision, values and strategic goals of the Humboldt Senior Resource Center (HSRC). This role involves fostering a culture of philanthropy, cultivating donor relationships, and building a sustainable fundraising infrastructure. The Director of Development will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and senior leadership team to achieve the organization’s short-and long-term financial goals. The Director of Development will also lead the creation and structure of the agency’s Fund Development team, building its capacity to support the organization’s philanthropic and community efforts effectively.

 

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate Fund Development strategies and activities for the agency to include, but not necessarily be limited to:
    • Small gift campaigns
    • Major gift campaigns
    • Capital Campaigns
    • Annual Giving
    • Corporate Engagement
    • State, Federal, and Local Grants
    • Fundraising Events, including annual signature event
  2. Actively participates as a member of the agency's senior leadership team, representing the organization in relevant meetings and attending community events as needed or as requested by the CEO.
  3. Develop and implement the organizational structure for the Fund Development team to align with the agency's strategic objectives. Regularly evaluate and refine the team structure to effectively support the department's growth and meet the evolving needs of the organization.
  4. Ensure that all fundraising collateral adhere to agency marketing guidelines and applicable program regulations.
  5. Collaborates with Director of Communication and Marketing on outreach opportunities as it pertains to print and digital media.
  6. Collaborate with program staff to identify fundraising areas of need or grant opportunities.
  7. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with corporate partners, donors, and media outlets to increase awareness and strengthen support for the organization.
  8. Develops and executes direct mail campaigns.
  9. Solicits sponsorships for events, or donations from donors or corporate partners.
  10. Plans and executes donor appreciation events and activities.
  11. Coordinates donor recruitment efforts, including research on prospective business and corporate donors.
  12. Oversees the donor database with the assistance of the Fund Development team.
  13. Coordinates major donor solicitations including special projects, presentations, and/or major donor direct mail campaigns.
  14. Foster a culture of philanthropy across the organization, engaging Board members, employees, and stakeholders to embrace and support fundraising efforts as a shared responsibility.
  15. Creates and develops reports as needed for use by the CEO, Board of Directors, agency annual reporting, and any other determined needs.
  16. Identifies State, Federal, and Local grant opportunities and provides opportunity updates to the Director’s team.
  17. Prepares grant submissions in coordination with the CEO and applicable Directors.
  18. Oversees and supports the grant management process.
  19. Develop and execute an agency Legacy program.
  20. Tracks estate gifts from probate to completion.
  21. Identify, cultivate, and educate financial professionals (such as attorneys, financial and estate planners, and realtors) about HSRC's mission
  22. Works with the Director of Finance to ensure audit trail for fund development activities.
  23. Coordinates HSRC staff and volunteers as needed for special fundraising events or projects.
  24. Ensures Fund Development employees follow safety-related policies and procedures, minimize hazards in workplace, and respond to any safety-related incidents with employees or participants.
  25. Enforces all programs written policies and makes revisions of policy as necessary as it pertains to Fund Development.
  26. Participates in the development of new agency programs and initiatives.
  27. Acts in a manner consisted with agency values.
  28. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education; or equivalent additional experience.
  2. Five (5) years of experience and demonstrated success in fund development, including managing fundraising campaigns, grant writing and strategic planning.
  3. One (1) year of supervisory experience.

 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:

  1. Valid California Driver’s License, and personal auto liability insurance required. Must have a personal vehicle in good driving/operating condition, insured for State minimum liability requirements, and that can be used for the applicable job functions noted above.

 

PRE-SCREENING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Requires clearance of a DOJ and FBI criminal history background check
  2. Requires Motor Vehicle Report to verify eligible driving record.
  3. COVID-19 and Influenza (flu) vaccines preferred.

 

JOB SKILLS:

  1. Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles.

  3. Demonstrates advanced written and verbal communication skills to convey information effectively.
  4. Ability to analyze data and detailed requirements to assist with decision making.
  5. Strong interpersonal interactions that result in team building, successful negotiation, and conflict resolution. Demonstrates effective social interaction with co- workers, management, Board members and business and community contacts.
  6. Ability to work well both independently and with others in a complex environment.
  7. Strong judgment, high integrity, creativity, flexibility, and initiative.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and applicable computer programs and software. Knowledge of web-based applications such as timekeeping, training, and email programs.
  9. Knowledge of grant writing, fundraising, event planning, strategic planning, and ability to stay up to date on new developments.
  10. Must possess cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity and have strong belief in the agency’s Global Ends Statement and Vision, as well as the PACE model of care, mission and philosophy.

 

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. This position supervises the following employees: Fund Development Team as determined by the Director of Fund Development.
  2. In coordination with Human Resources and other supervisory staff, oversees hiring, orienting, training, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating of specified departmental staff.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to sit at a desk and interact with a computer screen for extended periods of time.
  2. Hand and arm strength sufficient to operate a keyboard for several hours each day.
  3. Ability to lift 15 pounds.
  4. Physical abilities sufficient to move between different staff work areas, communicate with staff and the public, operate a computer, produce reports, talk on the telephone, and travel to other Agency worksites.
