Description
IBSS is looking for a Full-Time Arctic Activities Coordinator to assist in coordinating with multiple Arctic-related organizations to prepare an Arctic strategy for research and representation for NOAA Fisheries and to help coordinate, facilitate, and support AFSC marine science engagement activities in the Arctic.
The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Services (NMFS), Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC) mission in the Arctic is to provide reliable, world-class, scientific information on the coupled ecological and social systems pertaining to fisheries and protected resources unique to the Arctic, with the focused goal of facilitating climate-informed ecosystem-based management.
In 2023, NOAA Fisheries released its first-ever national Equity and Environmental Justice (EEJ) Strategy to guide the agency as it focuses on serving all communities more equitably and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
- Collect information from state, federal, and international organizations in collaboration with AFSC leadership to compile research goals and objectives in the Arctic.
- Produce a draft strategic plan for regional and national review and organize meetings, as required, with AFSC leadership to discuss the draft strategic plan.
- Coordinate, organize, and facilitate regular meetings and information sharing with academic, agency, and community representatives on the Central Arctic Ocean Fisheries Agreement.
- As needed, coordinate, organize, and facilitate AFSC engagement with academic, agency, and community representatives on Arctic issues.
- Coordinate the preparation of Arctic-related presentations and other materials as required.
- Develop meeting minutes, presentations, briefing memos, and/or other materials as required.
- Masters in environmental policy, science, or related field
- Program planning and management in a team environment [marine research environment- office work only, no field work]
- Developing performance metrics and milestones
- Meeting planning and facilitation skills
- Working with diverse interagency teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Current MS Office skills
- At least 5-years working with marine fisheries information programs or other science-based programs
- Experience working with Alaska Native communities and Alaska underserved communities
