The Distribution Sales Representative plays a critical role in driving growth and building long-term partnerships with customers in the food service and seafood industries. This position involves identifying prospective customers and managing accounts. The role requires a balance of fieldwork and office-based responsibilities, ensuring high-quality service and support for customers while contributing to the company’s reputation for innovation and excellence in specialty seafood solutions.
Essential Duties:
- Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from referrals, newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, Web sites, and other sources
- Travels throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders or talks with customers on sales floor or by phone.
- Collects monies due from accounts.
- Displays or demonstrates product, using samples or catalog, and emphasizes salable features
- Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained.
- Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm's production and delivery schedules.
- Prepares reports of business transactions, keeps expense accounts and mileage logs.
- Works with management to keep account activities and literature up to date.
- Coordinates customer training.
- Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.
- Develops and maintains relationships with purchasing personnel.
- Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries.
- Attends trade shows as requested.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, or related fields. Or a combination of culinary experience and education preferred which proves proficiency in the field.
- 5 years of experience in foodservice sales.
- Knowledge of food industry and related products.
- Adhere to customer service principles and practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public;
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Knowledge of Inventory software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
