Job Overview

Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as an AmeriCorps Conservation Crew Leader. This role is pivotal in guiding and mentoring youth ages 16-18 through hands-on conservation projects across various public and private lands. The Field Leader will play an essential role in fostering an educational and supportive environment while enhancing the skills of young participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise a crew of nine youth in executing diverse conservation-oriented projects.
  • Facilitate daily educational lessons utilizing our accredited outdoor education curriculum.
  • Collaborate with the Crew Leader to ensure effective delegation of tasks and maintain crew morale.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and mentorship to crew members, emphasizing teamwork and individual growth.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safety and risk management for both physical and emotional well-being of participants.
  • Transport crew and equipment to various work sites as needed.
  • Track participation and progress of corps members throughout the program.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past three years.
  • Relevant recreational or professional outdoor experience.
  • Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Willingness to frequently drive NYC vehicles.

Compensation And Benefits

  • Living allowance of $4,050 for the summer.
  • AmeriCorps Education Award of $3,097.50 upon successful completion of service.
  • Scheduled days off every other weekend, with additional time off during the mid-summer break.
