The DOT Safety Compliance Coordinator ensures company vehicles, equipment, and employees comply with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies. This role is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the driver safety program, conducting driver training and skill assessments, and ensuring compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Effectively evaluate, monitor, analyze and identify all driver compliance issues and resolve them in a timely manner.
- Responsible for helping manage internal and external DOT/FMCSA compliance reporting.
- Respond to and conduct incident investigations. Make recommendations on corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Monitor, review and implement Driver Safety Education Program and driver training per DOT regulations.
- Monitor, review and respond to drivers ELD for HOS violations and questions.
- May assist in the implementation and monitoring of compliance controls, procedures and operational processes.
- Identify areas of poor performance indicators as reported by FMCSA. Provide guidance and oversee all communications related to the reporting of FMCSA scores and progress to the Logistics Operations Manager.
- Perform trend analysis on compliance related activities. Provide weekly, monthly reports with metrics on safety.
- Process and manage all driver accident claims with our Risk Management team and insurance carrier.
- Work with Accounting Manager and Risk Management to maintain the current vehicle list.
- Maintain roadside inspections and citations along with vehicle maintenance program for fleet.
- Review Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports daily and communicate with maintenance to ensure resolution.
- Hold driver safety meetings and provide drivers with a voice to leadership.
- Review pre-trip and post-trip inspections and driver logs to ensure compliance.
- Responsible for site safety processes
- Responsible for Fire Extinguisher maintenance scheduling
- Other duties as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 Year of Experience in a safety compliance role
- Skills:
- Expertise and extensive knowledge of DOT/FMCSA rules and OSHA regulations.
- Deadline driven with excellent organizational skills.
- Previous ELD software experience, Samsara preferred.
- Advanced computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Capability to handle multiple tasks and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Self-starter with ability to take initiative and be an independent thinker.
- Ability to define processes and procedures as well as initiate tasks related to job requirements.
- Knowledge of permits relating to DOT
- Must have strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to assess, coach and mentor drivers.
- Ability to pass a hair follicle drug test, post-offer pre-employment physical, and background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Class A CDL
- 2 years of experience in transportation compliance
- Certified Defensive Driving Trainer
- Knowledge or willingness to learn different facets of trucking (chips, flat beds, logging)
