What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Summer Intern- Counseling Services position at Illinois Central College?
The Counseling Intern- Summer is a temporary position available for start date after May 16th and end date before start of Fall semester. The Counseling Intern is primarily responsible for counseling students in personal, academic and career matters as part of graduate-level training requirements. Intern hours would be determined with supervisor but would range between 5-10 hours per week. This position will be located on the East Peoria campus.This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. - Provide individual and group career exploration, academic advisement and personal counseling to students.
- Conduct human development workshops and seminars as well as educational seminars for groups and agencies as assigned.
- Administer and interpret tests and personal inventory assessments.
- Consult with parents, faculty and staff relative to student problems in accordance with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) laws.
- Refer students to appropriate offices or agencies as needed.
- Attend clinical supervision at least weekly and as required by graduate program.
- Assist with committees and meetings that are relevant to the functioning of ICC Counseling Services.
- Provide career information, assistance and referrals as necessary.
- Participation in assessment interpretation for counselor-taught sections of ICC 111 - Career Choice 8-week sessions.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Current enrollment in a graduate-level Counseling or Social Work program, as well as enrollment in a practicum and/or internship course for the summer semester.
- Approval of site selection from relevant faculty, program coordinators, etc. of the enrolled graduate program.
- Knowledge of counseling theories and community resources.
- Assist students in obtaining needed support services
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizing and prioritizing skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.
- Experience in community services, counseling the educationally and financially disadvantaged, and dislocated or laid off workers.
- Experience conducting personal development workshops.
