Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) is seeking an individual to serve as Assistant Adult Transition Center Supervisor at Fox Valley Adult Transition Center. The individual will be responsible for overall planning, implementing, and evaluating gender-responsive, trauma-informed programs, as well as supervising facility security operations. The ideal candidate is a competent leader well-versed in criminal justice models and philosophies, effective at implementing best-practices strategies, and able to work collaboratively in a diverse and fast-paced environment. This position would be an excellent fit for someone with a passion for both criminal justice reform and rehabilitation of justice-involved women. Job Responsibilities
- Serves as the Assistant Adult Transition Center Supervisor.
- Develops, implements, directs, and reviews policies, procedures, rules, and regulations for residents.
- In the absence of the Center Supervisor serves as Duty Warden.
- Serves as full-line supervisor.
- Conducts daily inspection tours of the Center for security, safety, and sanitary measures.
- Represents the Center with outside community groups.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology, or a related field.
- Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement public or private organization, a correctional facility, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Prefers at least three (3) years of professional supervisory experience in a correctional center or secured setting.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programs.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience interpreting, implementing, and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience communicating and interacting with social service agencies, advocacy organizations, unions, and the public.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience creating, maintaining, and analyzing electronic information databases to track data, monitor, and analyze trends.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience responding verbally and in writing to external and internal inquiries.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience writing documents for internal and external distribution.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience working with women impacted by the criminal justice system.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience in fiscally responsible budget management.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience in reviewing contracts and monitoring for compliance.
Employment Conditions
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
