Equine Riding and Life Coach
Scope of Responsibility: Works under the direct supervision of the Operations Director. Responsible for carrying out duties assigned on a shift-to-shift basis. The Equine Riding and Life Coach is responsible for supervising students during scheduled Equine programming.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Equine Riding and Life Coach to join our team and support the daily operations of our equine facility. The ideal candidate will have a passion for horses and the ability to work effectively with both animals and people. This position involves a variety of tasks that contribute to the facilitation of class, working on the curriculum and assisting students with training and riding activities.
Position Summary: Part time positions available three days a week. Working with students and horses on a daily basis in riding sessions. The ideal candidate would be in charge of matching students and horses up for riding sessions and ensuring everyone’s safety during the class. Horse care and feeding is not included in duties unless requested by director.
Qualifications:
1. Must be 21 years of age if transporting or medication dispensing is part of your job description.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent.
3. Certified in CPR and First Aid. Valid Arizona State driver's license, insurability and be physically capable of driving facility vehicles.
4. Experience working with horses and instructing horsemanship. Knowledge of safe practices and demonstrated ability to work with horses and people.
5. Experience working as a crisis counselor, substance abuse counselor, Behavioral Health or Mental Health Technician and/or demonstrated ability or training in basic communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to work with students ages 13-17.
7. If in recovery, the employee must have one consecutive verifiable years of abstinence from alcohol, drugs and/or mood-altering chemicals.
8. Must be able to successfully pass fingerprint and criminal records verification as required by State licensing authorities.
10. Must be able to lift or carry a minimum of thirty-five pounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A.
1. Has knowledge of and implements the basic philosophy and objectives of In Balance Ranch Academy
2. Displays knowledge of dealing with students with addictions and behavioral health issues.
3. Is able to utilize shift reports as a tool for meeting the needs of the student by observing the student within the milieu and by asking questions that are related to the student’s program.
4. Charting adheres to stated In Balance Ranch Academy policy.
5. Seeks out opportunities to increase clinical knowledge and gain experience within the In Balance Ranch Academy program model by attending therapeutic groups and lectures – as required.
B.
- Works with the Equine team to facilitate riding sessions.
- Works on curriculum to improve the experience for our students.
- Helps to co-facilitate family weekends with the equine team.
- Matches horses with riders on a daily basis based on each individual's skill level and the horse's needs.
- Communicates with the herd manager to ensure soundness with our horses.
- Meets with the equine team weekly to discuss goals and improvements that can be made to the department.
- Take notes after the class on how each individual did.
C.
1. Contributes to the assessment of students by reporting to the educational and clinical staff important observations and communications with students, in a timely fashion.
2. Handle’s facility and student emergencies effectively and in accordance with In Balance Ranch Academy policies and procedures.
3. Follows through on assigned tasks in the designated timeframe established by the Equine Operations Director .
4. Demonstrates a positive, solution-oriented approach to the position.
5. Takes initiative to correct situations when discovering an area of need/concern.
6. Asks for assistance and feedback from the Equine Operations Director.
D.
1. Assists in promoting a therapeutic milieu of harmony, trust, learning and growth for students by observing and interacting with students on a frequent basis.
2. Helps evaluate care with other multidisciplinary team members.
3. Understands and follows appropriate channels of communication as necessary to support clear and consistent communication in accordance with In Balance procedures
4. Provides constructive criticism in a professional and caring manner. Reports concerns about employees on probationary status to the Clinical Director.
5. Maintain confidentiality of all student/facility/employee related information. Demonstrate understanding of all related laws, regulations and facility policies and procedures.
E.
1. Has completed orientation and maintains CPR and First Aid certification and annual updates.
2. Participates in formulation, implementation and evaluation of programs and policies by providing feedback to the Clinical Director, Equine Director and Milieu Managers.
3. Reads practical literature, questions Equine Operation Director of tasks that are unclear and asks for feedback and suggestions regarding growth and development.
4. Attends staff meetings, facility in-services and other program conferences when scheduled.
F.
1. Maintains a professional attitude and emotional stability under stress and utilizes appropriate resources to cope with stressful situations.
2. Maintains punctuality and personal appearance, adheres to the In Balance Ranch Academy dress code.
3. Adheres to stated facility policies regarding absences from work/PTO and related departmental policies/procedures on notification for the use of same.
4. Is able to integrate constructive criticism concerning improvement in effective ways of dealing with students, families and staff.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
