We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Social Recreation Specialist to design and implement recreational and social activities tailored to a young lady with intellectual disabilities. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum and a passion for promoting social inclusion and recreational engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development: Design and implement recreational programs that enhance social skills, physical activity, and creative expression for individuals with Autism.
- Activity Facilitation: Lead 1:1 activity such as arts and crafts, sports, games, and social outings, ensuring participant is engaged and supported.
- Social Skills Training: Integrate social skills training into activities to help participant develop communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Individualized Support: Provide one-on-one support to participants as needed, adapting activities to meet individual needs and abilities.
- Safety and Supervision: Ensure the safety of all participants during activities by monitoring behavior, preventing potential risks, and providing appropriate interventions when necessary.
- Collaboration: Work closely with families, caregivers, and other professionals to ensure that activities align with participants' goals and needs.
- Progress Monitoring: Track participants' progress in social and recreational skills, and provide regular updates to families and care teams.
- Inclusive Environment: Foster a positive, inclusive environment where all participants feel valued, respected, and encouraged to engage.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of attendance, activities, and participant progress. Assist with planning and organizing events and outings.
- Policies for Time Off
- Submit written vacation requests at least two weeks in advance for approval.
- Notify the supervisor at least two hours before the start of the shift if unable to work due to illness.
- Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities in a recreational or educational setting is required.
- Education: Certification in Autism-related therapies or recreation therapy is a plus.
- Skills: Strong communication, creativity, patience, and the ability to adapt activities to various skill levels. Proficient in behavior management techniques.
- Certifications: Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
- Transportation: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for community outings.
- Background Check: Must pass a background check and provide professional references.
