What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Civil Construction Cost Estimator position at Independent General Contracting, LLC (IGC)?
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Build, package & submit a complete bid to client
2. Plan quantity takeoffs for all civils scopes of work including but not limited to demolition, water, wastewater & storm drainage utilities; concrete sidewalks, curbs, ramps, walls, valley gutters, headwalls; earthwork excavation & embankment, subgrade prep, topsoil, building pads
3. Attend pre-bid meetings (as necessary)
4. Attend bid openings (as necessary)
5. Pre-bid site meetings (as necessary)
6. Plans & CAD file procurements (as necessary)
7. Bid packaging preparations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience working as an estimator for a general contractor bidding on site work projects
- Experience in estimating grading and utilities for projects such as site development, industrial and commercial development, utlities, reclamation, and general site work
- Experience in estimating projects from 500K to 10 million dollars
- Ability to estimate self-performed work and determine labor, equipment, and material costs
- Working knowledge of construction assemblies and all project phases
- Ability to produce accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings
- Ability to produce detailed, final contract estimates
- Ability to assess site exposures/construction risks and adjust cost estimate accordingly
- Ability to identify constructability issues during the estimating process
- Ability to identify value- engineering alternatives
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with clients, engineers, etc.
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and Adobe
- Experience with takeoff/modeling softward such as Agtek, TrimbleBusiness Center, Carlson, Cad, or similar
- Work experience on Bid2Win (B2W) Heavy Bid (HCSS) or similar software
Education
- High school diploma
- Other requirements: Must be responsible, impeccable work ethic, organized, time-management proficient, great attitude, self-motivated, takes initiative, & respectful. Must pass a drug test if offered the job.
