Indian River County
This position supervises skilled and semi-skilled workers and heavy equipment operators engaged in maintenance activities associated with drainage systems and roadways within the County. This is a skilled position working under general supervision of a Road & Bridge Manager.
- Supervise the work of crews engaged in the maintenance activities associated with drainage systems, roadways, guardrails, and sidewalks within the county.
- Establishes maintenance of traffic for each crew and ensures that the plan is being implemented properly.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving problems.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Interacts with the public concerning complaints about roads, rights-of-way, and drainage area.
- Coordinates with Road & Bridge Manager and Fleet Manager to schedule repairs and maintenance of equipment.
Education:
High school graduate / GED and eight years of working experience, with 4 years of experience as a crew leader, foreman, or supervisor.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
- Must possess a valid Class E Driver’s License
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Knowledge of the effective operation of and ability to use heavy and light maintenance and construction equipment.
Ability to train people on the above-mentioned equipment.
Knowledge of the methods used in construction and maintenance of roadways and drainage.
Knowledge of the methods used in preparing sub-base and base for asphalt roads.
Knowledge of effective supervisory techniques.
Knowledge of safety rules and safe operating procedures.
Knowledge of County, State, and Federal regulations as they apply to construction and maintenance of roadways, bridges, and drainage systems.
Knowledge of F.D.O.T specification and standard details.
Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions.
Computer skills to document, photograph, and email information and complete work and repair records.
Sufficient physical strength and agility to do heavy manual labor.
Knowledge of surveying techniques as necessary to collect existing elevations of ground conditions and to layout work areas.
Ability to enter data on a computer to track usage of materials.
Ability to assess road conditions and repair them in a timely manner.
Ability to complete paperwork and employee evaluations.
