JOB SUMMARY:
Under administrative direction, this position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that enhance employee engagement, foster a positive workplace culture, and improve employee retention. This role involves contributing to and enhancing current employee engagement along with the development and creation of new programs that impact the overall mission of the Human Resources Department and IRSC at large. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to create a positive work environment that supports the professional growth and well-being of all employees.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement programs that enhance employee engagement, including annual recognition activities, awards, required employee training, and professional development opportunities.
- Plan and organize employee events, such as award ceremonies and recognition programs. Collaborate with departments and vendors for event logistics, including venue setup, ordering awards, catering, scheduling, and internal marketing.
- Foster a sense of community and belonging among all employee groups by collaborating with internal college departments and HR leadership to align engagement initiatives with the institution’s strategic goals.
- Design and coordinate ongoing training programs, including leadership development, compliance, and professional skills enhancement.
- Lead and enhance existing employee development programs.
- Coordinate New Employee Welcome (NEW) and the new hire onboarding process by organizing welcome sessions, developing orientation materials for new hires and fostering relationships between new employees and their teams ensuring access to resources for a smooth transition into the college.
- Oversee New Faculty & Mentor Forum and develop and manage mentorship programs for faculty including mentor assignment, schedules, and coordination of sessions.
- Oversee the Anne R. Snyder Department Chair Leadership Academy for discipline leaders and chairs, develop and coordinate upcoming schedules, and oversee session facilitation.
- Coordinate manager and supervisor development opportunities such as People Manager Training: LEAD at IRSC, its content, schedules, and facilitation of sessions.
- Maintain and monitor internal employee tuition reimbursement process and professional development requests for support and sponsorship.
- Maintain a comprehensive list of offerings and opportunities on the college’s Human Resources website for employee awareness as well as advertise and communicate internally to constituents on a regular basis.
- Conduct regular employee satisfaction surveys and needs assessments, analyze feedback, develop actionable recommendations to improve the work environment. Identify factors contributing to employee turnover and implement retention strategies, such as workshops, team-buildings activities, and training programs.
- Track key retention metrics, analyze survey results and identify key trends. Develop action plans to address areas of concern and improve engagement.
- Conduct exit interviews with employees as needed.
- Develop and implement communication strategies to keep employees informed and engaged. Stay updated on relevant industry trends and best practices in employee learning and development, engagement, retention, and higher education.
- Serve as the liaison for online Learning Management Systems (LMS) administration and create associated learning opportunities for all employees.
- Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational or Training Development, Psychology, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years in employee learning and development, engagement, retention, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Certification in Human Resource Management (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is advantageous.
- Experience in a higher education setting or a similar environment is highly desirable.
- Skill in working with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe applications, and Workday preferred.
- Strategic and critical thinking abilities and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Proficiency in Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) and other HR-related software.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.
