Hourly Wage: The hourly wage for this position traditionally starts at $16.24/hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24/hour for those that hold a Bachelor’s Degree.
Location: This postion is in INDOT's Central Office, Indianapolis.
Role Overview: This position will serve as a Data Analyst Intern for the various departments of the People Services Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support. The objective of the position is to provide valuable learning experience for the intern, while assisting the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities. The Intern will report to Ryan Tucker, Injury Management Director, Safety Division.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Gather, manage, and analyze a potentially wide variety of departmental information, metrics, and KPIs daily.
- Be responsible for using data and data systems in supporting strategies, programs, and solutions based on business needs of the departments of INDOT People Services (Safety, Talent Management, Equity Services, Payroll).
- Develop and/or update various types of reports using data visualization methods for delivery to key stakeholders.
- Develop and/or maintain informational databases.

What You'll Need for Success:
- Working towards a Bachelor Degree in Data Analysis/Science/Design or other information management-related area of study
- Relevant work experience can substitute for degree requirements.
- Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT (provided)
- Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process
- Analytical skills
- Ability to operate computer programs (Must have excellent Excel skills and experience creating variety of reports and data visualization charts. Will work with MS Office products along with proprietary software systems)
