Cad Draftsman

POSITION OVERVIEW

The CAD Drafter/Programming Specialist works in conjunction with multiple departments in a drafting and programming capacity to develop drawings, part files, and machine programs. This position provides information and guidance that is critical to the efficient and accurate fulfillment of customer requirements in processed steel and fabricated components.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for following the company processes that have been put in place.
• Reviews customer drawings for completeness, looking for all necessary information to produce the part. Read and Interpret blueprints. Understand the tolerances and specifications of each project.
• Create or revises drawings to produce parts or components when the customer print is insufficient.
• Creates equipment programming using the appropriate nesting software that maximizes material utilization.
• Responsible for exporting parts and nesting programs for the Press Brake, Laser, and Plasma. (Bysoft Bend, Bysoft Cut, and Pronest Software are utilized).
• Communicates with sales team, project managers, and customers regarding all aspects of the product design, to ensure prints/specifications are accurate prior to releasing the part for production.
• Communicates with the production team to ensure nesting files are accurate to produce the part in accordance with customer and Steel and Pipe quality expectations.
• Responsible for creating shop drawings, as well as detailed part drawings, from the customer prints in accordance with the specifications and tolerances.
• Responsible for maintaining accurate records and updating the systems and folders timely.
• Work seamlessly with production to correct any issues that occur as the result of customer drawings.
• Work with the shop floor to provide consistent drawings and find ways to enhance the manufacturing process using best practices for lean manufacturing.
• Responsible for tracking, correcting, communicating revisions on projects, and accurately estimating time to complete tasks and communicates workload.
• Assists in educating sales team on prints and programming, so that they can better communicate with their customers.
• Work effectively within a team environment.
• Work on multiple projects and tasks while meeting deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to visually utilize computers and other office equipment to properly enter information, as well as read documentation.
• Must be able to perform repetitive hand and arm motions.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, and crawl for long periods of time. Continual use of your hands, considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
• Must be able to lift and maneuver 50 lbs. without physical restrictions on as needed basis.
• Must always wear appropriate PPE such as safety glasses, welding helmets, hearing protection, gloves, and safety toe boots.
• Able to work in hot and cold environments during summer and winter months.

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Experience working in an industrial steel fab shop is preferred.
• We are a metal fabrication shop. Qualified candidates will be proficient using various 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Effectively utilize various nesting platforms as well as Microsoft Office.
• Create and revise drawings in Solid Works. Read and interpret blueprints. Offer suggestions and new approaches to design, production, and quality. Assist production as needed. Work effectively within a team environment. This position is a very hands-on position and may require one to get their hands dirty at times.

• Must be able to prepare and deliver oral and written direction to shop, office staff and customers.
• Must be able to understand and communicate both verbally and in written form in English.
• Must be willing to accept change and act accordingly.
• Must be willing to be flexible and willing to accept a variety of tasks as assigned.
