Position Summary:

This position oversees and directs laboratory operations at the Bayway Chemical Plant Laboratory. Coordination of lab technician work and lab facilities utilization is critical to this role. Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership skills in the areas of developing, training, and motivating colleagues, as well as driving compliance with our safety culture, standard operating procedures, and quality practices.
Key Outputs: What we can expect from you

  • Prioritizes and deploys Lab resources
  • Accountable for Lab. budget
  • Responsible for the performance and productivity of lab Shift teams
  • Responsible for continuous improvement activities including lab Optimization
  • Responsible for the Site compliance with Quality Management System
  • Collaborates, interfaces with Analytical-MFT as required
  • Change agent: identifies future needs of the group and related continuous improvement activities.
  • Monitor skills of Lab Technicians, identifies training needs and help each Lab Technician to develop his/her skills
  • Participates in the Lab competency checks (promotions, new qualifications)
  • Determine training needs and collect vacation plans for Lab for input to the annual Shift Plan
  • Manages last minute unplanned events (i.e. sickness) to ensure appropriate lab coverage
  • Responsible for overall Laboratory housekeeping
  • Local IQMS Coordinator – key contact for all IQP related changes

A successful candidate is likely to have

  • Strong commitment to safety and quality values
  • Background in chemistry, chemical engineering or related career
  • 3 years work experience with leadership and management responsibilities in the lubricants industry, chemicals industry, laboratory operations, or other similar industrial background
  • Proven time-management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Proficient with spreadsheets and word processing software
