Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Police Department Dispatcher to join our team. This role involves responsible administrative and technical work in receiving calls for police services and dispatching personnel and equipment for emergency responses. You will be utilizing telephone, radio, computer, and other communication equipment during assigned shifts to ensure public safety and efficient coordination of emergency services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communication and Dispatching:
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for police services.
- Dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment to respond to incidents.
- Operate police radio systems, radio recorders, and computer terminals efficiently.
- Information Management:
- Provide relevant information to police personnel and the public as required.
- Maintain accurate records of all dispatched calls and actions taken.
- Equipment Operation and Testing:
- Conduct periodic testing of communication equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Utilize various communication devices, including telephone, radio, and computer systems.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited high school, vocational school, or possession of a GED, supplemented by business school courses in typing, data processing, and general office procedures.
- At least 1 year of experience in a police and/or fire telecommunications center.
- Licenses and Certifications:
- A valid driver’s license with a good driving record, maintained throughout employment.
- Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training.
- Florida Department of Health Certification for Emergency Dispatching.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with the public and emergency personnel.
- Ability to operate complex communication equipment in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent multitasking and problem-solving skills.
Screening and Evaluation:
Qualified candidates will be subject to:
- A polygraph examination.
