Position Overview
A deeply rooted Hawaii-based nonprofit organization with a long history of community impact seeks a mission-driven Controller to lead its financial operations. With programs and services delivered across all four major islands, this organization focuses on strengthening families and communities through cultural education, early childhood programs, tutoring, counseling, workforce development, and more. As part of a tight-knit, collaborative leadership team, the Controller will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and private grants during a time of financial transition and strategic evolution.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, purchasing, and general ledger.
- Lead budgeting, cash flow management, and financial forecasting.
- Prepare timely financial statements, grant budgets, and reports for leadership and board meetings.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state grant requirements.
- Coordinate annual audits and prepare supporting documentation.
- Supervise a small accounting team.
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Director and executive team on strategy, sustainability, and cost efficiency.
- Support grant compliance and creative application of restricted funds.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA or advanced degree preferred but not required)
- 5 years of accounting, audit, or financial leadership experience
- At least 3 years of management or supervisory experience
- Nonprofit accounting experience
- Experience with federally funded grants and compliance requirements strongly preferred
- Willingness to work primarily on-site, with flexibility for hybrid work once acclimated
Salary : $90,000 - $120,000
