Summary
Part of the site team and under the immediate supervision of the Island Coordinator the Ohana Family Advocate will serve as a resource and referral for the families, coordinate parent workshops using the Keiki Steps Parent Curriculum as a foundation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to INPEACE Employee Handbook, INPEACE Policies Manual, Office Guidelines and all health and safety policies.
Provide educational support to children and their parents / caregivers within multiple modalities including in-person and / or distance learning.
Work closely with families to provide resources and referral services on-site.
Attend all meetings and training including but not limited to Staff Development, Professional Development, Ohana Advocate Meetings, Ohana Nurturing, Debrief, Annual Assessment Training, First Aid / CPR, Food Handling.
Maintain current certifications including but not limited to CDA (until AA in ECE is earned), First / Aid CPR, Food Handling.
Assist in creating an engaging Keiki Steps preschool classroom environment.
Build meaningful relationships with families.
Determine parent / group needs.
Research resources then provide appropriate resources to parent / group in a timely manner.
Works closely with lead teacher and aide to schedule parent education courses and workshops based on need.
Maintain parent center and board.
Implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
Implement a curriculum that is rooted in the Hawaiian culture.
Support the daily use of Hawaiian cultural activities and practices.
Support the daily use of Hawaiian language.
May lead courses and workshops as appropriate.
Reinforce the parent education component of curriculum.
Schedule parent workshops and training.
Monthly Site Kuleana Required Documentation Include : Site Team Review Form, Lesson Plan, Parent Activity Labels, Small Group Activity Sheets, Parent Talk Activity Sheets, Cooking Activity Sheets, Field Trip Activity Sheets, Bus Requests, Admission Requests, Supply Request Forms, PPVT, ASQ3, ASQ-SE2, Observations, RRR forms, Parent Board Labels, Parent Topic Grid, Request for New Field Trip Venue, Budget.
Ohana Advocate Kuleana : RRR forms, Parent Board Labels, Parent Topic Grid, Parent Talks, Handouts, Ohana Nurturing Planning and Facilitation, Budget.
Meet deadlines for all monthly kuleana submissions and report deadlines.
Timely submission of all documents to the office each week including but not limited to Receipts.
Accurate and timely submission of PTO (Paid Time Off) requests and ADP timesheet.
Complete Request and Referral forms and follow up with families.
Assist and support team members with setup and cleanup.
Participate in at least five community events per school year.
Implement ongoing recruitment.
Maintain updated and current resource files in the office.
Maintain a current list of resources and referral services in your community.
Other duties as requested.
Participate in ECE coursework each semester and meet the minimal educational requirements.
Adhere to Ka Lama expectations.
Submit FAFSA results annually.
Submit transcripts at the end of each semester.
Minimum Qualifications
Level 1 : High school diploma and 2 years experience working with children ages 0-5.
Level 2 : CDA credentials and 2 years experience with children ages 0-5 OR AA degree.
Level 3 : Associate degree and 2 yrs exp in the field OR CDA and 6 yrs exp.
Level 4 : Bachelors and 2 yrs exp OR AA and 6 yrs OR CDA and 8 yrs.
Level 5 : Masters in education or related field.
Skills and Knowledge
Knowledge of early care and education as well as other family support services and resources available in the community.
Proficiency required in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations.
Willingness to work as part of a team.
Excellent planning, organization, coordination skills and ability to motivate people.
Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.
Ability to seek Hawaiian cultural resources in the community.
Ability to analyze problems, develop effective solutions and resolve problems within a Hawaiian cultural context.
Willingness to integrate new practices and skills into work environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact with internal and external individuals, groups, organizations, and community agencies.
Proficiency in technological applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Zoom, Google Suite, Workforce Automatic Data Processing (ADP).
