We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Service Start-Up and Commissioning Manager to lead, manage, and develop a team of Service Project Managers responsible for the start-up, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance of critical systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, service operations, and commissioning processes. In this role, you will oversee all site schedules, activities, and documentation, ensuring that all service projects are executed on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and safety standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Service Project Managers, providing direction, coaching, and mentorship to ensure high performance and professional growth. Foster a collaborative and results-oriented team environment.
- Oversee all site activities related to start-up and commissioning projects, ensuring effective coordination and smooth execution across all stages from planning through completion.
- Manage and optimize site schedules, ensuring that project timelines, resources, and budgets are effectively allocated and maintained. Address and resolve any scheduling conflicts or delays.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders, ensuring clear communication regarding project progress, milestones, and potential challenges. Address any client concerns promptly and professionally.
- Ensure that all start-up and commissioning activities meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance with industry regulations. Conduct regular site inspections to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and promptly, including project schedules, site reports, commissioning records, and compliance certifications. Review and approve final commissioning reports and other technical documentation.
- Identify potential risks to project timelines, budgets, and quality, and proactively implement strategies to mitigate those risks. Ensure all safety protocols are followed on-site.
- Work with senior management to develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives for the start-up and commissioning process. Provide feedback on system and process improvements based on lessons learned.
- Collaborate with project finance teams to track project budgets, ensure efficient use of resources, and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.
- Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to ensure the timely delivery of equipment and materials for each project, managing relationships and resolving any issues that arise during the commissioning process.
Professional Qualifications
- 7 years of experience in project management, with a strong focus on start-up and commissioning of technical or industrial systems. Previous experience managing a team of project managers or technicians is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of start-up and commissioning processes, as well as the ability to work with complex systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or other critical infrastructure).
- Proven leadership ability with experience managing, mentoring, and developing teams. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to motivate and lead a diverse team.
- Strong understanding of project management principles, including scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and quality control. PMP or similar certification is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify challenges early and implement effective solutions to keep projects on track.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate project goals, progress, and challenges to clients, vendors, and team members.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., NEC, NFPA, OSHA, ISO, etc.) and the ability to ensure compliance on all projects.
- Strong technical understanding of the systems being commissioned and a deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, or other technical disciplines related to service start-up and commissioning.
- Ability to travel to project sites and work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings, as needed to meet project requirements.
