We are seeking an experienced Microbiology Laboratory Scientist to join our team in Gulfport, MS. This role is responsible for ensuring the continuous operation of the microbiology laboratory, conducting investigations, and supporting quality control processes in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in microbiological techniques, laboratory compliance, and quality systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage daily activities in the microbiology laboratory to ensure continuous operation.
- Conduct laboratory investigations for out-of-trend and out-of-specification results.
- Collaborate with teams to improve efficiency, solve problems, and enhance quality.
- Prepare samples, reagents, and both liquid and solid media for microbiological testing.
- Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
- Report and document test results following established procedures.
- Calibrate, operate, and maintain analytical instrumentation for product testing, including performing routine preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Maintain up-to-date training records and ensure compliance with company training requirements.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in microbiological techniques such as aseptic testing, microbial monitoring, gram staining, and plating.
- Experience with analytical equipment calibration, operation, and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of quality systems, including change control, deviations, and CAPAs.
- Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adhere to cGMP requirements.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and work within strict timelines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in microbiology.
- At least 2 years of experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing laboratory.
- Expert knowledge of FDA regulations, OSHA policies, SOPs, and quality control procedures.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more as needed.
- Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods (8 hours per day).
