When you join our team as a Manager, Rail Logistics - East & South, you will be responsible for managing the rail supply chain from our operations through to the reloads and to the customers.
What You’ll Do
- Manage the rail logistics team for the US South and Eastern Canada regions.
- Work with the rail logistics team to identify areas for continuous improvement including cost reduction and maintaining competitive advantages.
- Act as liaison between mills, railroads and reload providers to ensure smooth flow of rail shipments.
- Support the sales team to ensure their requirements are met for quoting and capacity availability.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues related to rail freight, including delays, damage, or loss, by implementing corrective actions and collaborating with the appropriate stakeholders.
- Manage contractual commitments with railroad companies.
- Maintain rail rates for quoting and accrual purposes.
- Maintain a full understanding of the freight payables process and approve payments as required.
- Monitor and report on shipping targets as required.
- Monitor inventory levels at reload facilities to ensure product is moving in a timely manner.
- Manage external relationships with counterparts at rail and reload facilities.
- Manage loading capacity requirements with railroads and reloads to ensure current and future shipping requirements can be satisfied.
- Bring forward opportunities for new partners and facilitate the onboarding process.
- Assist the GM Logistics with details required to negotiate rates with railroads and reloads.
- Work with GM Logistics to investigate and assess strategic logistics opportunities and requirements.
- Provide training, guidance and support to logistics coordinators.
- Analyze and maintain important logistics KPIs.
- 5-7 years of work experience in transportation and logistics field.
- University degree in Forestry, Business Administration or Logistics preferred.
- Experience in managing commercial relationships with external service providers.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to effectively lead and supervise a team.
- Familiarity with the rail transportation infrastructure and compliance in the US South and Eastern Canada.
- Ability to communicate clear and concise information in an accurate and informative manner.
- Ability to multitask, meet and work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines, and attention to detail.
- Maintain open, ongoing, and effective communication with internal customers, carriers and reloads.
