Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients and staff members in a manner that is respectful and empowering
  • Consistent and dependable attendance
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings, program meetings, and trainings
  • Present a professional demeanor to the community through appearance, communication, and presentation

Essential Functions

  • Engage in and role model direct conflict resolution and mediation
  • Maintain Confidentiality in accordance with Alaska Statute 18.66.200
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Federal and State laws that affect victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Provide on call SART response locally as requested by forensic nurses or law enforcement
  • Implement policies, protocols, and services designed to provide advocacy and support to victims who are or have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual assault or individuals who are impacted by domestic violence and/or sexual assault
  • Provide support services to victims and other individuals impacted by domestic violence, and sexual assault who are residing in emergency shelter, calling on the phone, a non-residential walk in, or a partner or prior victim of a partner in batterer’s intervention Support services include active listening, safety planning, case planning, information and referrals, and advocating with other community agencies
  • Provide advocacy to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence at the hospital as requested through law enforcement and forensic nursing
  • Assess the needs of clients and make appropriate community referrals
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate groups as needed
  • Provide back-up as necessary for court advocacy
  • Be a referral source to the ANDVSA Legal Advocacy Project, ALSC, and IAC’s legal program
  • Maintain accurate client records including statistical records, file management, and summary of contacts according to IAC confidentiality policies and program procedures
  • Other Duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

  • College education in Human Services or closely related field; sufficient job, school, or life experience may be used in lieu of the Associate's degree
  • Excellent interpersonal, group, and written communication skills
  • Proficient with computers and ability to do data entry
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues in a mature, confidential manner with integrity and compassion
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles
  • Commitment to agency mission and goals
  • Ability to pass background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work or a related field
  • Knowledge of Alaskan Cultures, Fairbanks community, and other social service agencies
  • Work or life experience in the field of domestic violence or sexual assault, including trainings and/or certificates in these fields

Supervision: Directly responsible to the Shelter Manager & Shelter Assistant Manager

Hours: Part-Time. This job requires evening, holiday, and flexible availability. Shifts will provide 24 hour on-call coverage.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.90 - $23.51 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 30 per week

Work Location: In person
