COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
For 27 years, the International Festival of Arts & Ideas (“Arts & Ideas”) has inspired and
delighted audiences with an annual program of over 200 performing arts and humanities
events year-round, at least 80% of which are free.
Focused events in June range from world- and nationally-renowned speakers sharing the
stage with critical local voices, from discussions on democracy, to jazz concerts, theatrical
performances, dance, takeout mixology classes, bike and walking tours, and live individual
performances by local on-call artists on front lawns and sidewalks throughout the area.
Year-round programs include special town hall events, a fellowship program for youth, mini
local festivals in New Haven’s culturally rich neighborhoods, participation in the NEA Big
Read, and our annual Visionary Leadership Award program.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Working under the supervision of the Audience Services Manager and the Box Office Lead,
the Box Office Assistant will support online, over-the-phone, and in-person ticket sales.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Box Office
- Sell tickets and answer customer inquiries over phone, email, and at in-person info booths at the Yale Bookstore and on the New Haven Green.
- Track complimentary ticket allotments (“hold seats”) for various Festival departments, and plan appropriate timing for releasing holds.
- Staff concerts and events to sell pre-show tickets and distribute will-call tickets.
- Reconcile income and inventory after events; return remaining inventory to venues.
- Prepare a collaborative wrap-up report, including an analysis of box office operations, seating charts, per-show personnel expenses, and future recommendations.
Audience Experience
- Write pre-show and post-show emails to audience members.
- Collect feedback from audience members through surveys and audience interactions; assist with creating audience statistics reports to help inform marketing strategies and decisions.
- Collaborate with House Management team to ensure effective info-flow both internally and with audiences.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have 2-3 years of customer service experience
- Must be highly organized and detail-oriented
- Familiarity with box office software is preferred; knowledge of Eventbrite is a
plus - Proficiency with cloud-based solutions
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities with efficiency and poise
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Interest in the arts & performing arts a plus
- Spanish a plus
- Familiarity with neighborhoods and communities in/around New Haven a plus
- Ability to work in person in New Haven May and June 2025 required.
Compensation:
$20/hour
